Waipukurau Council't Claim Against Democratt CASE NON-SUITED

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. When the Waipukurau Borough Cauncil recently sued Mr T. C. A. Hislop, leader of the Demoqrat Party at the 1935 elections, for £1 19/5 for rent of the Waipukurau Municipal Theatre for a meeting he conducted there, the Magistrate told Mr A. M. White, who represented the council that, as the hall had been booked by the candidate, Mr W. L. Barker, he was the man from whom the council tsbould seek xedress, and the case was adjoumed to give an opportunity of locatlng the candidate, who was believed to be in Wellington. The matter came up agaia to-day before Mr J. Miller, S.M. Mr White stated that, although they had been able to get an addtess at whieh Mr Barker had stayed, a letter there had brought no reply. The council therefore elected to be non-suited. Mr Barker, who conteated the Waipawa electorate at the last General Elections in the interests of the Democrat Party against Mr H. M. Christie (Labour), Mr A. E. Jull (Nationalist) and Mr J. Ormond (Ind. Nat.) pooled only 528 votes, making hira fourth in order of votes,
