Mucli unfavourabl© weather estended over the tast week, and this consequently hainpered. the club flying. A commercial trip to Wellington, with •Mr. N. E. F. Loisel, of. GisbQrne, as a passenger, was made on Saturday and this week A. W. Britton and H. P. D. van. Asch flew the flornet Moth and Moth Major to Gisborne. Sticky weather between the Maliia Peninsula and Gisborne forced A. W. Britton to land on the new emergency landing ground at Opoutama. This ground, whicli must not be confused with a licensed aerodrome, is being extended so that it should be a vaJuable ground for emergency landings in the event of pilots meeting bad weather, when to go on or to turn baek might be risky. The Mohaka ground, for example, has proved very useful to the club before now, and with the advent of furtlier grounds along the coast, and particularly one at Wairoa, pilots should have more coniidence in making Gisborne trips. Wally Britton found the Opoutama ground in good order despite lts present limitatious and we think he quite enjoyed his short stay there. As iar as is imown, the Hornet Moth was the tirst macliino to use the new ground. A foriner instructor of this club, hlight-Lieutenaut 1. E. Kawnsley, brought Norman Loisel back to Gisborne duriug the week. When Jack Kawnsley called in at Hastings on hia return journey we were inuch impressed by the two passengers he carried back in the Whitney Straight ZK— Ah'G. They weighed five gallons a piece. New Club Aircraft. A deiinite decision to purchase one Porteriield Oe Luxe aeropiane fitted with a Warner Scarab Junior 90 h.p. motor, has been made by the executive of the club. Teddy Barker lnforms us that the first of the two Porterfielda he has ordered is due to arrive in Wellington on December 3 by the Port Hobart from New York. The other rnacliine should follow quickly. Both machiues are to be assembled in Hastings. The order to-ht swi'-starters has been cancelled on accouut of the woight of these coinponents. This will mean that more luggage may be carried, and in any event - tlie engines are never diffieult to starb by hfind. The club is, of course, to ?eceive a free Tiger Moth aeropJane from tlie Government. BJind-fi^ing equipment may be had at additionaJ oost to the club and as it is desirable that any clult should be able to provido comprehensive traiuiug i'or ifcs pilots, a 'lecision kesa ttBtds Ui fejtv® mwhm
