TURNIP-ROOTED CELERY
This vegetable is very useful in the kitchen garden. It forms g tuberous base which is used sliced. up in salads. They attain a .good size if properly grown, often weighing three to four pounds. * The seed should be sown in boxes the same as ordinary celery, and picked out two inches apart. When the plants are large enough they should be planted out in ' rows in sandy soil 18 inches apart and two feet between the rows. Before setting remove all the side shoots and some of the outside leaves and trim back the long lateral fibre roots. Serfc the plants not too deeply and supply with plenty of water during the growing season. When the roots are half grown they should be eovered with soil to bleach them as done with celery. When the crop is matured the roots may be lifted and stored for some months until all used.
