GIRLS' FLOCK HOUSE MAY BENEFIT COUNTRY WOMEN

The use of GirJs ' Flock House for some purpose of benefit to the country women of New Zealand was advocatect by the chairmau of the trustees of the Kew Zealand- Sheopowners' Acknowledgmont of Debt to British Seamen Fund, Mr Edward Newman, at the annual meeting of subscribers receatlv. Mr Newman, remarked that if the Covernment approved of daughters of British seamen coming out to New Zealand they would be carefully looked after and given the opportunity of learning suitable branclies of farming privately, so that the Chrls' Floek House would no longer be required. It had been suggested, he continued, that this valuable property should be purchased- ljy tho Government and lianded oVer to the Women 's Division of the New Zealand Farmers ' IJuion, which perhaps might be assoeiated with other organisations having siinilar aims, and be utilised as a rest home for farmers' wives suFcnng from overwork and tho straLn which under present conditions was alrnost inseparable fiom farming in the back country. "Having no iuformation as^ to the intention of the Government *in this matter," said Mr Newman, "I can only express the hope that by some uieans the Girls' Flock House may be secured by tho country women of New Zealand for this br Mndred purposes. it has beeu suggested that tho trainui g of gids who are preparcd to under.taite domestic duties ±'ot country people might be included in tho work. "Every farmer knows. that with the ever-mcreasing difiiculty of securing labour of either sex in the country, tho hardships suifered by farmers' wives are becoming a very senous problem, tvhich undoubtedly should be tackled. "Perhaps some sheep-farmer or his wife who is in a position to help his or her less f ortunate brothers and sisters might take this opportunity of acquiring Flock House and haud it over for the purposes I have indicated. T.t' such a oue exists, I can assure him or her that the Flock House trustees wouljL be rympathjsiie?
