SERIES OF ONE-ACT PLAYS IN NAPIER

Most successful was the Napier Rer pertory Players' final one-act evening oi th« 1937 season lield "last night in tlie Foresters' Hall, when tlie production of four one-act plays was i'ollowed by tho usual supper and dance. "Peace at Hoine," by George Courtland, the lirst of the plays, was a light comedy cleverly acted by Britou and ■ Aiinetto Cliadwiok. Following this was a dramatic sketch, ''The Spell," by Mary Kelly", the characters being excelleutly portrayed by Misses Valerie Lewis and Volniai Clothier. "Babes in the Wood," the next on the programme was written by V. G. Clinton-Baddeley, aud produced by Mr Leon Fail. The stage setting of shrubs aud ferns made for a woodland glade giving just the right background for this delightful burlesque presented by tlie Hawke's Bay Little . Theatre Society. The eostumes rof the players were most colourful und artistic, giving an air of gaiety to the performance which was well received by the large and appreciative audience. The last of the plays, ! 'The 309th l'erformance," by Steplien Barnett, was produced by Miss May McDonald and met with keen applause. Tho setting was an attractive living room, furuiahed with a suito eovered iu biego aud greeu. A large bowl of pink aud

mauve stocks was to be seen on the top of thu writiug dcslt, while a lloatiug bowl oi guy spring iluwers adoincd au oceasioual table. Each meniber of the cast gave a splcudid performauce.
