RECENT ACTIVITIES OF HASTINGS GUILD CIRCLES
The attendance at. tho monthly meeting of" the civic cixcle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild was small owing to the' coming in Show week, but those who -were present enjoyed a particularly interesting afternoon. The circle leader, Mrs. H. Lovell-Smith, presided. Mrs A. F. Glenny and Mrs F. Deans, president and secretary Tespecti-vely of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild, spoke about the happenings at the recent first annual council meeting of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds which they attended .as the delegates from the Hastings Guild. This was listened to with great interest. One of the circle members later read a paper on certain legal aspects attecting women and this also interested tho members. : - It was decided that the next meeting of the civic circle should be of a more social nature and members were asued to bring a friehd. The literary circle of the guild, under the lcadcrship of Miss Helen Ford, also. met recently in the G.F.S. room which was very prettily" decorated with iargo bowls of Iceland poppies. The afternoon 's programme consistedof origiual work and was most entertaining. An original poem was Tead i and enjoyed aiid this was followed by . the reading by.. members of a piay; "The Countess.^ Comes \o .Call,?' also cleverly written by a member. An account of a vieit to the Continent Was read and the moeting proved that much literary ability is to be found amoug the members of this circle, .
