H.B. CLUB'S OPENING

Glorious sunshiny weather prevailed for tbo opening of tbe Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Club's eeason on tbe Marewa courbs on Saturday afternoon. Tbe couras were in good order considering that tbey have only been laid down one season, and tbeir present condition reflects the' greatest credit upon the club's caretaker, Mr F. Daily. There was a very large attendance of members and players from otbor clubs. With two or tbree exccptions tbe wholo of tbe 22 courts were occupied for play. Mr L. W. Frucle welcomed tbe visitors, an.d expressed pleasure at seeing ,

sueb a large attendance. Dr.'G. E. Waterwortli presented tbe trophies won last season as follows: — Men's championship singles: E. H. Milburn. Women 's championship singles: Mrs Milburn. Men's handicap singles: A. B. Williams. Women 's handicap singles; Mrs Le Quesne. Clausen tropby for women 's handicap singles: Mfs Le Quesne. Mixed championship doubles: E. H. Milburn and Mrs Milburn. Mixed handicap doubles; Mrs Nichola^ and A. B. Willjams. Women '& championship doubles: Mrs Milburn and Miss A. Ormond. Meu'is championship doubles: E. H. Milburn and A. Betts. Men's handicap doubles: G. Snaddon and N. Simpsons

Women 's handicap doubles; Mrs Mawson and Mrs Harrison. Mr Milburn congratulated tbe club upon sucb a successful opening of its 6ocond season on tbe new courts. The courts looked in splendid order, and be complimented tbe caretaker, Mr Daily, upon having got tbem into sucb excellent condition. Mr H. T. Bradley, in officially declaring the courts open for play, said it gave him great pleasure to see all the old players baek. again; also many new members and members of otber clubs. He hoped tbe courts would play Wll, and that all would spend a pleasant afternoon.
