WELLINGTON, This Day. J. Harmer% a Beaman, was charged before Mr E*. D. Mopley, S.M., to-day with assault, and pleaded guilty. " He is probably the least culpabie of tbe men who etruclc me, ' ' said Dr. J. L. Barford, of the steamer Tainui. "He evidOntly thouglit he was acting for hla friend- ' ' Witness said that nocused and another man came to his cabin on Monday evening, both being under tho infiuedce of drink. Harmer disputed statemonts witness had mado in a lettqr to the hospital authorities concerning a man who had been admitted from the ship. Later several drunken men wsed abusive language to witness and accused struck him in the face. Accused went outside and two other men struck witness. Accuged said he was not drunk but in a temper.
