Mr Lyons's Assurance to Australia LABOUR DOUBTS IT

(Keceiveu 19, 1.40 p.m.) MELBOUENE, Oct. 19. The Primo Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, broadcasting at Bendigo, said: "I solemnly declare that iny Government 's policy never has included and never will include conscription. There will be no conscription while my Government is in office. I give you that delinite assurance." This was the Prime Minister 's xeply' to allegations. by Labour that tho Federal Government was committed to a policy of conscription and war. Replying to Mr. Lyons at Melbourne, the Federal Labour leader, Mr.. J. L. Curtin, said that no reliance could be placed on the Prime Minister 's declartious. He added that if war broke out there would be conscription overnight.
