GOLF SEASON ENDS
Waipawa Club's Function The official closing of the Waipawa Golf Club's 1937 season was attended by a record numbcr 'of members and visitors from kindred clubs. Visitors were present from Porangahau, Wanstead, Takapau, Waipukurau, Ongaonga, Patangata and Hastings and the members extended themselves to make the day a iitting close of a most successf'ul eeason. The catering arrangements were in the capable hands of the ladies of the club^ and in this direction as usual they excelled themselves. The club is deeply grateful for their valued eervice rendered throughout the day. During the morning medal rounds were played by both the ladies and men's section, resulting in a win for Mrs. Angus in the ladies' section, and for P. James in the men's section. The afternoon mixed Canadian foursomes was won by Mrs. McCartin and Watkins, who returned a net 66. A medal round was also played by the men during the afternoon, Bepburn proving the winner with a net 68, followed by Les Henry with a net 73. Following the day's play, the tropliies won during the season were presented by Mr. Btrapg and Miss Avis Britten. Mr. Strang, in returning thanks to the large number of visitors for their attendanae, also expressed the club 's thanks to Messrs. Kittow Bros. for the use of their property and valued assistance iendered the club; to Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler, who have always assisted wherever possible; and to the ladies and officers of the club. To Mr. N. J. McKay a special vote of thamss was accorded for his able services the control of the open tournament and of the programme for closing day. Trophies for competition during the season were donated by the following^ to all of wkom the club tenders its thanks: — Miss Beck, Mrs. J. Angus, Mrs. Cartin, Mrs. D. H. Edwards, Mr. F. M. Tickner, Mr. Grieve, Mr. Dallas, Mrs. J. Clark, Mr. E. J. Watts, Mr. 8. W. Strang, Mr. D. H. Edwards, Miss D. Emden, Mis's Avis Britten, Mrs. Rov Britten, Mrs, McHardy, Mrs. N. J. MeKay. The winners of the various events wero presented with trophies as follow: Men's championskip. — E. J. Watts. Men's junior.— Allan Kittow. F.M.T. Cup. — G. Knoblock. Otane Cup, — W. Collings. Captain's trophy. — R. Knoblock. President's. trophy. — E. J.' Watts. Secretary 's trophy. — D. Surridge and R. Knoblock. Otane Buttons. — Miss Beck and H. Bryant. Ladies' championship. — Mrs. C. E. T. Woods. Closing day. — -Ladies' medal: Mrs. Angus, Men's medal: P. James and Hepburn. Mixed foursomes: Mrs. Mc- | Cartin and Clem Watkins. The 1937 closing marks the most successful season in the club's history, and there is no doubt in the opinioji of members that the 1938 season is going to prove even more prosperous.
