ROM®].
Girls' "Vision" Discredited
Thc Popo has instructed the Bishon of Bellu-np. near Venice. to forbid pilgrimages to the mountain village of Voltago, whe^e the Virein is alleged to have appeared to five youug shepherdesses. These gir 3 claimed that since the beginning of the month they saw regularly the white-dressed Madonna, with a 'halo of dazzling stars and clusters of red rorses at her feet, who told them that the people should intensify thelr prayers. Although uncoq^rmed, the apparltions were credited by the peoDle and provoked such an unprecedented reawakening of religious fervour that crowds floclced to Voltago. It is estimated that more than 10.000 people, Including 2"00 priests, eathered daily at Voltago, and serlous road accidents occurred. including the overturning of a motor coach. ^ The Bisliop of Belluncr, who examined the girls, disavowed any supernatural connection with their vision, and declajed them the result of hallucinations. Pilgrimages are now banned, the clergy are forbidden to visit Voltago, and the police have closed the mountain road to traffic.
