WEEK-END FISHING

Anglers Report Imporvement RIVERS BECOMiNG CLEARER A definite improvement in trout-fiBh-ing was reported by anglers from Hastings and Napier/ who cast their lines on the waters of the larger rivers in the district during the week-end. The weather was fine yesterday, and the abscnce of wind made eonditions suitable. The rivers are becoming clearer, and the waters are falling and gradually returning to normal. The Ngaruroro river, which has not so far been fishable, had cleared sufficiently yesterday for fisherrnen to try their luek in its waters. "Quite a number of good-size fish were caught yesterday," said one Hastings angler this morning, "and I suppose the average was about three and arhalf pounds in weight. There were not nlany fishermen in evidence, however, for many of them will not fish a falling river. They prefer to wait until tho rivers are flowing normally." Asked when Le thought the rivers would be back to normal, the same informant replied thjy; if the present weather continued lie thought they shouid be normal iu about a week or ten days. Another fisherman sauj^ that there had been some good "bags" caught during the past week, altkough the rivers were now better than they had been. The fish taken so far had been of good quality and weight, he said.
