Report of Northern H.B. Institutes HALF-YEAR REVIEWED At the half-yearly meeting of the Northern Hawke's Bay Fecleration qf Women 's Institutes held at Greenmeadows on Tuesday the secretary read the followlng half-yearly report: Your committee has much pleasure in presenting this the sixth half-yearly report of the. activitiea of this foderation for the past sixv months. The committee — ,At the first committee meeting held the following officers were elected; Presidont, Mrs. D, J. Biggir; vice-presidents, Mesdamos Baker and W. Bridgmanj treasurer, Mrs. Dasent; secretary, Mrs. A. McHardy; committee, Mepdames Johnson, McKobbie and Otene. The committee has held four meetings, all being well attended. Drama festival.-r-The most outstanding event held so far this year has been the drama festival, held in the Town Hall, Taradale, on August 12 and 13. There were eleven entries received, ehowing a hundred per cent. increase on last year's entries. The plays solected were of quite a good standard and again, as last year, we owe our thanks to Miss Hazell for her very kindly and helpful remarks after each porformance. Our thanks are .also due to Mrs, Johnson, Taradale, and members oi' both Taradale and Greenmeadows for their help and co-operation in making the third festival such a success. Hastings HiHtork'al Society. — Out congratulations are extended to the Bay View Women 's Institute for gaining first place in the competition held by the Hastings Historical Society for • the best essay "Early. History of Your District," also to the Putorino Inntv 'tute for gajning' eecond, and Kereru tkiri,
The potato cup.— -The Potato or Tawa Cup for 1937 has again been wqu by the Puketitiri Women 's Institute for the third time in succession. They grew 797.25 lbs. between 23 members thus averaging 34.66 lbs. per member. Programme banner. — It is indeed an honour that Greenmeadows has this year won the banner for the best programme for the Dominion. V.O.'s.fl— The following new V.O.'s have een appointed and approved of from Dominion headquarters: Mrs. O. J., Baker, and Mrs. A. McHardy. Quite a number of institutes have been visited by these members, and it is hoped that more will be visited before very long. Round table conference. — This fedeyfttion was represqnted at the roundtable conference held at Wellington by Mrs. Baker as federation executivo delegate and Mrs. Riggir, organiser. Community work for 1937. — A baby's layette has been the community work for 1937, and as the ontries did not close till Eeptember 30, winners are not. yet lcnown._ There was a large number of entries receiver, and some very fine work put into them. Hbnio and Country. — We again remind members that the new Home and Country is very much improvqd, and aithough the subscription has been raised from Oetober from 2/- to 2/6 it is well worth while. Institutes must see that their reports are sent in immediately after , each meeting, and aithough this section for our federation has much improved, there are stiJl a number whose names do not appear. Group meetjngs.-^-Two very success1 ful group meetings have been held this year. One in the Heretaunga Group, which took place at Taradale last May, and one in tho Mauqgamoana Group, held at Eskdale in August. Mrs. Ghapman Taylor, and Miss Spcncor, O.B E,, wpre the principal speakers for both meetings. In conclusiQn we must thank our in stitutes for their support and co-oper-^ ation in all our aetivities, and aro kappy to see that our wonderiul movement is striving so well and our institutes numbering 29 in all with a morabership of nearly a thousand. are running eo smoothly in our federation,
