Capsize of Circus Cage

WESTPORT, Last Night. Soven monkoys that escapcd when their cage was capsized with its trailer bohind a motor-lorry on tho Buller Gorgo rond yesterday, lod most of tho staff of Solo Brothors' Circus and intrigued residents of tho distriet a merry dancc before l&ey wrere recaptured. It was not until 4£ liours later that the last 8f the monkeys was caught, and the perspiring pursuers resumed their trip to Westport. A collision between a motor-truck and the trailer on which the monlceys' cage was mounted occurred on a bend, both trailer and cage being capsized. The fall sprung some of the bars, and in a flash seven of the 36 monkeys in the cage were free. While some of the staff hastily made sure that none of the other monkeys got away, the other men cliased tho agile little animals that were making the most of their unexpected rcle.xse. Scampering through bush and scrub, tho monkeys wero difficult to catch, sdiowing a marked preferencc for climbing the neurest tree instoad of submitting moekly to capture. Local residents joiued in the chase with gusto, but strategy rather than numbers finally won the day. A tama monkey was used as a dccoy and the f ugitives ' curiosity eventually oyercamo their discretion, with the regult that all were safely retmrned to the cage.
