AUCKLAND, Last Night, A strong protest against the action of tlie Public Works Department in pulling down fences and making prcparations to form roads through the Coates Avenue section of the Orakei Maori settlement, was made by about 40 Maoris at a, meeting held yesterday afternoon. Mr Kohi Hemana, chairman of a special committee set up to lead the protest, stated last night that the contractors engaged on the Government housing scheme at Orakei had already placed pegs in position ready to slart the work of laying down a Toad which would paas through the settlement 'b cemetery. The meeting decided that seven children from the Coates Avenue section o'f the viJlage whb were pupils at the Kohimarama school would be stopped from atfending school until the protest was recognised. The head teacher is to be informed of the action taken.
