Altbougb Farida, oducated in Paris, (bas adopted Western modos of life and is ordering Parisian wedding gowns, it' •bas beeu decided tbat Egyptian women are not yet aufficiontly freed from Mosiem tradition to permit of their Queen living tbe life of European Eoyalty. It was only after long discussiona witb E1 Maragby, tbe Egyptian Moslexa Primate, tbat King Farouk consented to Farida taking tbe Moslem veil. Although he hiraself is a strict observci of Moslem rites, Farouk bas glven a lead to Westernisation of bis subjects. The King was convinced by tbe Moslem Primate, bowever, tbat a Queen wbo adopted Western modes of living and dress would be subjected to much' criticism by vast numbers of rigidly crthodox Moslems. Ih tbe meantime tbe young couple— Farouk is only 18 — continue to meet daily. Tbey motor in public, and swim together in tbe marble pool in Farouk '» palace.
