CHECKING STOCK THEFTS
Parliament To Amend Legislation INSPECTION ON ROAD Stealing sbock from Ndw Zealand farms will be made more difficult by a measure wbicb will be passed by Parliament in the present session. TJnauthorised persons travelling witb stoek will be easily detected by tbeir failure to produce a correct assignment note giving tbe number of stock consigned, a description, and the destination. Tnspectors will be appointed under tbe new legislation. This is according to information in a report receved by tbe executive of tho Canterbury Slieepowners' TJnion. The report advised tbat an amendment to tbe Stock Act would be passed in tbo present session, providing for the com-* pulsory carrying of a consignment note by all persons in charge of stock wbile travelling. Tbe note would state the number, description and destination of tbe stock, and would be open to inspection by officers appointed under tbe act. A further protection would be provided by giving occupiers of land* adjoining a route on wbick stock is trevelling tbe right to inspection on their bebalf by any inspector authorised by tbe' act. •
