WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. With only ono game left unpiayed, the championship of the Waipukurau Chess Club was coucluded on Friday night. D. W. Neild becomes club champion, having won all the games except oue. B. Holms, with six and a-half wins, is runner-up, One game— J. H. Walker v. H. Little — is yet to be played. Being unable to play several of his matches in the timo availablc, E. G. Beckin defaulted. Championship matches played on Friday night resulted in It. Holms drawmg with F. Wilson, H. Little def'eating G. H. Stapleton aud W. England dcfeating G. H. Etapleton. G. E. Fowlcr successfully resisted a cUallenge for top place on the ladder, defeating D, W. Neild. In club games Neild beat Carponter and Walker, G. Stapleton beat Walker and WikOn. The following table shows the positions in the championship matches:—
