Magistrate's Ruling in Speeding Case WOMAN LOSES LICENCE

AUCKLAND, Last Night. "Until I am corrected by a highei Court I lay it down that any motorist who travels at 60 miles an hour in New Zealand is travelling at a dangerous speed, and I have no hesitation in disciplining such a driver," said Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Papakura Court on a charge of dangerous driving between Huntly and Taupiri. Alice Pattenden was prosecuted. John Johnstone, traffic inspector, said he followei defendant past Huntly. When she passed a car at 50 miles an hour near Taupiri, defendant speeded up to 65 miles an hour. Witness sounded his siren, but defendant failed to pull up. He caught up to defendant at a bridge, wheTo ehe slowed up. The Magistrate: What explanation did the driver give, inspector? Witness: She said the 'man declined for some distance to let her pass and that she didn't think there was anything in eventually passing him. • She said she did not hear the siren. The Magistrate, in fming defendant £5, ordered her license to be endorsed and cancelled for three months.
