Maoris Resent Fence Being PuIIed Down

AUCKLAND, This Day. Maori occupants of four whares on a fivo-acre enclosure at Orakei known as church land were disquieted when Publie Works Department men, appear* ing suddenly, took down the fence and began to work a tractor, clearing a roadway. They put the fence up when they had finished, but a few days later reappeared and wcnt through tho same performauce. Tho Maoris liad not been given notice of tho nction and were eomewhat worried about ifc, but it is stated that the Public Works Department does not intend to ask the Maoris to lcavo until otker arraugements have been mafle for them, in aceordance with tho Government 's promise. The road work has been let on contract, but the contractor's men did not interfere with the Maoris ' houges.
