TOURNAMENT ENDS AT HASTINGS GOLF CLUB

The final day of the annual tournament of the Hastings Ladie3' Golf Club attracted many players and onJcokers to the links at Bridge Pah yesterday and the day was a most pleasant cne. At the conclusion of the day's play dnring which Miss Molly Jefferd, the daugliter of the club captain, Mrs J. H. Jefferd, won the championship, afternoon tea wes enjoyed by everyone. The guests at tea were the membrs of the Tasman Cup team who are at pre* sent staying in Napier. They were accompanied by Mrs Hector Smfth, the president of the Napier Ladies' Golf Club, Mrs F. N. russell, the Napier captain, Mrs Ellison and Miss Brown. Quite a number of visiting players were present including Mrs Foreman, of the Miramar Golf Club, Mrs T. EJJ Fossey, Mrs C. H. Sherwood and Miss Dorothy Stewart, all from Wellington, and Mrs D. Wilson, from the Hutt. On behalf of these players Mrs D. Wilson, who was the runner-up for the championship, thanked the Hastings Club tor their hospitality and said that ehe had enjoyed the tournament as much as any that she had taken part in. Mrs C. J. Baker, president of the Hastings club, congratulated Miss P. Helean on being chosen to be a member o;f the team to represent New Zealand agamst the Tasman Cup team. She thanked the men who had helped with the tournament, Messrs G. M. Hindmarsh, Mclntosh, C. J. Baker (starter), J. B. Wilson, Edwards and Coles( the umpires). AIso the Thursday men players who gave up their day's play for the tournament, the voluntary caddies, the caretaker, Mr Wall, and his outside staff who were responsible for having the links in such 'excellent condition, and Mrs Wall and her inside staff. Much of the success of the tournament was due to the untiring efforts of the secretary, Mrs John Hiil, who was assisted by tho treasuror, Mrs Mclntosh.
