GUILD MEMBERS ENJOY A SCHUBERT EVENING

Two very talented musicians, Mrs H. S. Robinson and Mrs Rees Kemp, who give great pleasure whenever they contribute items to a programme, entertained the members of tlie music circle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild at their meeting in the G.F.S. roum last evening. The programme was made up of piano and vocal solos, all music composed by Franz Schubert and tlie guild members showed their appreciation of a most delightful programme by asking tor many encores. The circle leader, Miss B. MeHutchoii, was in the chair, and with her was tho secretary, Mrs V. l. Westerman. Large bowls of yellow japonica and spring bulbs with asparagus fcrn gave a bright touch of colour to the room. Miss McHutchon reminded the members who jvere taking part in the operatta on December 2 that next week's practice would be held on Tuesday evening and that more members , were wanted for tho chorus. Mrs E. Riley mentioned that the Guild sociai evening would be held in the Oddfeilows' Hall on Octoher 7. Miss McHutchon then asked Mrs H. 8. Robinson , to take charge of the programme. Mrs G. Steevens read a most interesting account of the life of Franz Schubert and this was followed by musical items. Mrs Robinson played "By The Sea," and then accompanied Mrs Rees Kemp when she sang "To Music" und "To A Wild Rose." Mrs Robinson alsn played "Hark, Hark, the Lark" and as an encore Schubkrt's Serenade. Mrs Rees Kemp sang "The Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "The Ghost" and as an encore "Night and Dreams." The audience were so anxious to have more music that Mrs Robinson played one more item npt arranged on the programme, this being "O Star of Eve", from Tannhauser. Mrs V. L. Westerman, on .behalf of the members, extended very hearty thanks to Mrs Robinson and Mrs Rees Kemp for giving a most enjoyable grammeSupper was then handed round and enjoyed by all. A bring and buy stall for the circle funds conducted by Mrs Macaulay did good business during the evening.
