Hockey Dance. A well-attended hockey dance was hold in the Greenmeadows hall on Saturday night. Visiting teams from .Gisborne were entertained. A euchre party in aid of School funds was heid iu the Ormondville School on Saturday evening, and wa? woll patronised, Some closely-contested games wero played. Mrs P- Smalley won the consolation prize, for women, tho mcn's prize goiug to Mr A. Baines. Tennis Toumament for Waipawa. A special meeting of the tenuis section of the Waipawa Sports Club wa" lield to consider an application foi • permission to run an invitation tournament on the Waipawa courts over the Labour Day week-end. Dr. Norris, president of the section, outlined particulars relating to the toumament, at which it was anticipated that m&ny of the North Island's best players would bo present. After fully discussing the matter it was decided to recommend to the executive of the sports club that the necessary permission be granted for a three-day ' toumament. Mr D. H. Edwards was appomted as a member of the Open Toumament Committee of thc Club. Results of Muslc Exams. The Waipawa results of the barmony and theory examinations conducted in July by Dr. Markham Eee, examiner for the Royal Schools of Music, are as follow: — ^Harmony, Grade 1L: Nola Mathieson (Mrs E. Swain). Theory, Grade II: Nancy Green, Jaue Rennal, Fay Ward, A^eLma Hill (all Mrs E. Swain). Grade I: Dorccn Williams (Mrs E. Swain): David S. Trovanna (Miss D. Swain). Chess at Waipukurau. Thougb tlie matehes. are not all played, D. W. Neild, with nino wius and one loss, cannot be beaten ior the championshix> of tho Waipukurau Chess Club. He scored liis liintb success during the week-end, defeating G. C. Stapleton. The only otlier championship match played was G. E. Fowler v. G. H. Stapleton, the former winning. Neild failed in his challenge i'or top rung on the ladder, Fowler defeating him and therefore still occupying tlie jiremier position. A club game between G. H. Stapleton and lr.
