W- Neild Wins Championshii> There -was an excellent attendanee at the weekly meeting of the Waipukurau Chess Club, great interest being taken in the result of the matehes which. had a direct bearing on the championship. Results were as foUow: — CHAMPIONSHIP. D. W. Neild beat G. H. Stapleton. G. E. Fowler beat G. C. Stapleton. F. Wilson and G. H. Stapleton drew (stalemate). LADDER. G. E. Fowler beat D. W. Neild for top place on the ladder. POSITIONS OF PLAYERS. The positions of the players in the championship is as follows:- — Wins Losses D. W. Neild 9 1 G. E. Fowler 5 3 J. H. Walker 5 i R. Holme 4 3 G. A. Wiggins 4 5 F. Wilson 2i 3 W. England 3 wins 4 losses ; G. C. Stapleton 2 and 5; G. H. Stapleton 2 and 5; H. Little 2 and 4; E. Reckin 0 and 3. Neild is assured of the championship but the position of runner-up is still in doubt. JUANNEVIRKE BEATS WAIPUKURAU. A return match with the Waipukurau Chess Club was played by the Dannevirke Club at Dannevirke during the week-end. After three hours all the games were iinished except the one at board eix which tiie two captains Mossrs D. W. Neild and H. G. Lec, adjudieated a win for Dannevirke. Tho visitors were entertained at suxiper, during which Mr T. Gibbard, president of the Dannevirke club, extended a welcome to the visitors. In reply, Mr G. E.
