BIG IMPROVEMENT

Only Small Amount of Rates Outstanding BOROUGH'S GOOD P0S1TI0N The satisfactory position as regards outstanding rates was referred to brjefly by the Mayor, Mr G. A, Maddison, at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening. He declarcd that the position Was "wonderful" and a vast improvement on what it was a few years ago. Mr Maddison said that at the present time there was £1535 outstanding, which included £6 of the 1932-33 rates, £13 for 1933-34, £96 for 1934-35, £330 for 1935-36, and £1086 for 1936-37. "To have only this small amount outstanding instead of about £8000, as it was a iew years ago, shows tho good position that this borough is in," he said, "and it also reveals the very fine way in which the people have met their obligations." Mr Maddison also mentioned that so far £2329 had been collected of the present year's rate.
