Police Chop Through Bar* ricaded Windows RAID AT AUCKLAND J

AUCKLAND, Last Nigbt. Chopping their way through a heavily barricaded window on tho i«eeoqjJ storey of a building in Grey's avenue on W.ednesday night, detectives entered tbe premises and sized a quantity of prepared opium, opium seconds and pipes. Detectives wbo climbed a laddor placed on to a verandah inTront of tbe •building bad considerable difficulty iu ontering. Tbe window was barred inside witb incb planking backed with tbree uprigbts and four cross pieces of tbree-incb by two-inch timber rexnfofced witb wjire. A bole was cut and oue deteetive entered and opehbd the door for tbo others. Tbe doors were all reinforced on tbe inside. As & Tesult of tbe raid six Chinese appeared in tbe Police Court before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Five of tbcm, Gin On (laundryman), Wong Mow, aged 38, Ab Lee (gardener), aged 2^ Ab Sai (gardener) aged 45, and Shim Lind, pleaded guilty to cbarges of being found on premises for tho pur-. pose of smoking opium. "Tbe premises are well-known and bave figured in Court before," said tbe Magistrate. "Tbis place was barricaded and tbey knew tbe risk tbey were running. ' ' Gin On and Wong Mow, wbo had been before tbo Court previously, wero each lined £20 aud costs. Ab Lee, Ah Sai and Shim Lind were each iined £12 10/- and costs. Stanley Cbin Horne, laundryman, aged 47, was cbarged witb permitting tbe premises to be used for smoking opium and witb being found in possession of prepared opium. He was remanded( bail being fixe.d at £100.
