CHRISTCHURCH, Last Nigbt. A stateinent tbat tbo alteration to tbe law of damages proposed by tbo Attoruey-General, tbe Hon. H. G ,R. Mason-, would liavo little practical offect was made to-nigbt -by Mr F. W. Johnston at a meeting of the South Island Motor Union. Mr Mason said Parliament would be asked this session to consider legislation to do away witb tbo need for proving nogligenco as a basis for damages for injuries caused by motor-cars. "Juries have practically tbo final deci4io.11," Mr Johnston said, "and you bavo only to look round at tbe results of cases. Only tbree or four per cent. of plaintiffs lose tbeir cases wben tbey go before a jury. Tbis alteration of tbe law is not going to mako any difference except to barristers, and it will do them out of a job."
