Tennis Olub's Ball. There was a fair attendance at the Norsewood Tennis Club's ball in the town hall, despite wet and misty conditions. The promoters had put much hard work into enaking the interior of the hall bright. Decorations of coloured streamers were taken from the centre and the ceiling to the walls and, with the beautiful frocks worn by the ladies, the scene was a gay one. Mr. E. Armstrong was M.C. Mr. Te Tau's orchestra contributed music, and extras were played by Mrs. Parsons and Mr. K. Staiger. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Hartnett and Mr. G. Pit. A streamers and coni'etti dance was a star item. Football Club Dance. At a meeting of the Takapau Football Club management coinmittee, presided over by Mr. E. A. Frasei, it was decided to hold a football dance lowards the end of this piontli. The shield won by the senior club will be presented by Mr. A. L. McCormick, chairinan of the Gentral Hawke's Bay Eugby Sub-union. The ladies are to be asked to attend to tho catering and supervise the supper. A vote of thanls • is to be sent to Miss Lorna Edgecombe for acting as the Takapau queeu. Libraries Interchange Books By an interchange arrangement, a large and interesting cunsigiimont of books has arrived at the Ormondville Public Libr'ary from tlie Clive Libraiy, and is now nvailable to subscribers. Takapau War Eelief. At the monthly meoting of the Takapau brancli of the Hawke's Bay War lielief Association the following were present: Messrs. E. F. Stubbs (chairman), N. M. Paulaen, G. S. White, W. Outhbertson, J. Caughley, and O. H. Bjorngaard. Grants of a temporary assistance nature were confirmed. It was decided in future to hold meetings bi-monthly, and Messrs. Stubbs and Caughley were empowered to deal with special or urgent cases. Takapau Plunket Society. Mrs. N. M. l'aulsen presided at a meeting of the Takapau Piunket Oomuiittee held at the Piunket oKoms on Monday afternoon. Eeports for the last three months were received from the acting nurse, Miss Ellis. Arrangements were made for a Paddy's Market to be held in the Public Hall on tlie night of October 28. A letter was received from Mrs. J. C. Eolleston from London wishiug the society all sueeess during the coming year and enclosing a donation towards tlie funds. Lambing Losscs. Norsewood Guild. At the monthly meetina of the Norsewood Methodist Ladies' Guild, held at the residence of Mrs Ernest Parsons, Mrs H. P. Mortensen presided over a good attendance. During the afternoon an interesting competition was held, Miss Rickett being the winner. The special eft'ort which is being made by each meinber will be finalised at the October meeting. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies. Ormondville Card Party. Tliere was a good attendance at the weekly euchre party held in the Ormondville fclchool quite a number of visitors being present from Norsewood. Mrs O. Longman won the ladies' prize with ten games, while Mr B. Bowen, with 11 £ games, succeeded in annexing the men's prize. The consolation prizes were won by Mrs E. Cload, with six games, and Mr P. Sinai ley, with four. An appetising home-inade supper was dispensed by the ladies. The games were eapably controlled by Mr E. Cload. Visit to Sanatoriuir. Members of Ihe Waipukurau brancli of the Red Cross Society paid their monthly visit this afternoon to Ihe Sanatorium, taking comforts, book* fruit, flowers and cigarettes for II t patients the following contributing towards the afternoon: Mesdames I. W. N. Maekie, F. J. Hoplcinson, A. Tiimns, M. Davies, J. Ealph, L. Eenner H. De Lacy, A. Leach, Misses S. MrLauchlan and Meg Armstrong.
