OTANE, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Otane School Committoe was hold last night when Mr A. E. Black presided over the following: — Messrs Budge, Page, Voyce and Williams (secretary). The headmaster. who was also present, reported that the averago attendance for tho four weeks ending August 20 was 151.5 and .the average for the term 153 pupils, out of a roll nuinber of 170. In the primary schools' basketball competition both the A and B teams were successful in winning in their respective sections. Great credit was due to Miss Ingleton who coached both teams. In the football competition the boys were not so successful, although they won several games. Correspondence was received from the Education Board. about the payment of the cleancr's wages fortnightly and approving of a school holiday on September 15, provided a suffieieut number of children desire to attend the South Africa v. Hawke's Bay Rugby football inatch,' The secretary was instructed to write to the board about oiling of school floors. From inquiries luade by the hcadmuster tlie information was elicited that tho oil is offeetive in abating the dust nuisance and is also economical. The secretary reported that he had received no further notice about the milk in schools. Since last meeting the roof had been built over ■fhe bicycle stand and a picket fence near the tool shed had been erected. Alr O. R. Page was elected the committee's representative on the Waipawa School Oommittee. Several small ac-counts were passed for payment.
