Lost From the Wahine SEARCH PROVES FRUITLESS

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A special message from a representative of the Christchurch Press aboard the Wahine states that a man was lost overboard at 9.40 to-night. The only description available is that he wai a young man dreesed in- a grey suit and wearing a heavy overcoat. The steamer had run probably two miles hefore the occurrence was reported to the bridge. Captain Howie immediately turned the ship and circled tho spot three times and had a boat prepared in readineas. ■ Tbe night was black and dark and rain was falling, The searoh was hopeless and after one . hour the ship resumed its course.
