Progress Of Mfiinten&nce ^ The monthly meeting of the Hawke's Present: Messrs. C. Lassen (chairman), W. H. Campbell, R. E. Talbot, W, G Jarvis, J. H. Sheath - and J. A. MacDonald. Leave of absence was granted Mr. L. E. Harris. The progress of the varions maintenance works during August were reported by the engineer, Mr. -G. Rochfort, as follows: — Karamu Stream — Clearing this stream is completed to a point 40 chains above the Awanui junction. The stream is now in fair order. Awanui Stream — Roofs and stumps have been removed from the stream bed for approximately three miles, and.. the.! work is now stopped. Widening of the channei has been completed for 65 chains. Te Waikaha Stream — Work on this •stream and drain.is now nearly completed; the drain has been widened to 10 feet at the bottom for a distance of 71 chains. , Tutaekuri Waimate — A channei 20 feet wide was cleared for a distance of 60 chains. "• Tutaekuri River — General repairs and maintenance include fencing at Taradale and Brookfields and clearing stumps and blackberry. on the reserve adjoining the Waiohiki block , and clearing stumps at Brookfields. Plougbing was continued but breakage on tractor and .plough has held up the work; about ' 12 'acres have b,een ploughed. At' Moteo about 50 chains of planting and twenty ehains of fencing have been Completed. The |)ilot channei be'low Redcliffe b ridge has been started, and to- date 13 chains completed* . Tukituki River — Protective work and fencing have been carried out at Ten-nant's-bend; ab'out 11 chains, 'of heavy thatching- are completed. The levee at1 Haumoana has- been raised.to levl and' the . tojp and sides ehavily covered with !clay." The' river side of this 'levee "should '-have &' stone or slab f acing to resist wave action. N garur oro.iRver — ^Repairs have been made to the protective belts and willows topped ' bbtween Fernhill and Roy's Hill; clearing is being continued on the upper oRy's Hill levee.
