WAIPAWA SAVAGES MEET
WAIPAWA, Last Night. The fortnightly korero of the Waipawa Savage Club was held last evening, vice-Chief F. Adeane presiding in the absence of the Chief. The programme for the evening was in the hands of Savages Tickner and Adeane, and include d a number of items by visitors frocn Waipukurau. The programme opened with an address by Mr. Parsons (Waipukurau) covering the position between China and Japan, and was followed by a selection by the orchestra conducted by Savage Patterson. A vocal trio, Messrs. Haldane, Parsons and Windle, were well recpived in selections from "Iolanthe," "The Mikado," and " Gondoliers, ' ' and also in several sea shanties. Several numlxers played by the instrumental trio, Savage Rust (piano)> Windle (violin), and Cottrell ('"cello), were also greatly appreciated. A violin solo was contributed by Mr. Windle (Waipukurau), and songs by Savage Venner and Mr F. Haldane. Savage Adeane gave a lecturette ou world affairs, and the programme was brought to a close with several impromptu speeches, the speakers being, Savage D. Chalmers (response to toast of bride and bridegroom); Savage Douglas (reply at civie reception teydered on return from coronation) ; Savage McKay ("The Ladies"); Savage Rapley ("Babies"). The next korero of the club will be "Ladies' Night" and will be held on Beptember 17 when the programme will be presented by the Hastings Orphans.
