"WANDERING RIVER" MOVES AGAIN
Tutaekuri Now Flowing in Correct Mouth WILL CHANGE AGAIN Altbougb tbe Tutaekuri river yesterday resumed its correct course to tlie sea after moving nortb for some distance, officials of tbe Hawke's _Bay River Board anticipae tbat Witbin ^ a few days tbe xnouth of the river will Once again have moved until it is running against ihe groyne. Tbe change yesterday, bowever, bas bad the ^ eirect of removing a considerable portiou of tbe sbingle from tbe correct course. Tbe board 's engmeer, Mr. Guy Rochfort, stated this morning tbat tbe river was now takmg the correct route ot tbe sea following scouring which took place during tbe rise of tbe river this week, and, in tbe course of a few days, it would probably turn nortbward to tbe groyne. At tbe conclusion of tbe river diversion works some weeks ago, a moutb to tbe sea was forced for tbe river, and it was thought tbat tbe task bad been completed. Some days later, bowever, tbe river abandoned tbe opening made for it and moved nortb toward tbe groyne erected on tbe beacb. Tbe move was completely unexpected by tbe board, as was the sudden reversal of yesterday. It was not felt tbat tbe rise in tbe level of tbe strcaloi olj tbree or four ±eet was sufficient to force tbe river back to tbe sea againj but this has been done. Scouring took place during tbe time tbe river was in flood tbis week, however, and as bad been expeeted fected tbe concrete groyne, wbicb sunk and moved forward at the seaward end. Tbe. distance affected is about 50 feet,
