Meeting of Committee

WAlJPUilUivAU, Last Night. The Waipukurau District High School Committee held its monthly meeting tonight. Present: Messrs C. F. Haycock (chairman), V. L. King, T. Spencer, J. G. Blair, L. Renner, O. Cassidy, J. A. Uhambers and F. Layliss (hon. secretary). Reporting on the past month's activities, the headmaster stated that the primary roll had totalled 386 with an average attendance of 93.4. In the secondary department th© maximum had xeaohed 99, the average figure being 96.5 scholara. The term holidays had commenced on August 20 and the school would resumo on September 6. The Hawke's Bay Education Board advised that the damage t© a school fence, caused by a motor-car, would have to be repaired at the expense of the owner. This referred to a mishap resulting from very windy weather. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to interview the car owner. The installation of a radio s©t at the Waipukurau District High School has been commenced. The Education Board forwarded a circular memorandum stating that the Minister of Education desired that all wages of. school-oleaners or caretakers should be paid at not more than i'ortnightly iutervals. The board intimated that a grant of £5 had been approved in respect of damage to a fence at the secondary department, this liaving resulted from the pressure of passing stock. Mr Cliamhers, on behalf of the visiting committee, of which Mr King was has fellow member, reported that matters were satisfactory. The chairman stated that the annual ball would be held on the same lines as usual and various details in connection with the function were bnefly discussed. The chairman reported as to the proposed school excursion to Napier on the occasion of the Rugby match betwSen Hawke's Bay and the South African team of September 15. It was considered that tliere would be no doubt as to the popularity of the proposal as | far as the scholars are concerned, and it was deciued on the motion of Messrs Renner and Blair that, subject to the approval of the Education Board, the school be closed for the day, and if suitable arrangements can be made an excursion be arranged. The accounts passed for payment totalled £14 12/-.
