• • Takapau's Final Effort

TAKAKA U, Last JNigHD. The queen carnival eompetition, which was held to raise funds for the Cenral Hawke's Bay Rugby Union and in particular to pay off tbe debt on the playing area in Waipukurau, was finalised last night, ■ A very successful Paddy's inarket was held in the Takapau Publio Hall in aid of the eandidature of the local queen Miss Lorna Edgecombe. Tho Porangahau contribution ainoimted to £400, Miss J. Ormond winning the prcmier positiou. Takapau's support amounted to £212. Ab the conclusion of tlie Paddy's Market, at which a stali officered by Mesdames N. M. Paulsen, W. J. Craig and P. J. O'Dowd and several competitions, added £45 to the funds. Mr N. M. Pauken, on behalf of the local committee , thanked all who had so generously helped in the effort and congratulated the queen candidate, Miss Lorna Edgecombe, on her positiou in the eompetition. Miss Edgecombe suitably responded. A very enjoyable dance held at the concliision of *ho Paddy's market was well patronised.
