FAT CATTLE MARKET Small Yarding at Stortford Lodge Sale REC0RD LEVELiytEACHER A phenomenal rise took place in the fat cattle market at Stortford Lodge to-day, when only 80 head were penned, this being the small- , est yarding for many years. The quality was in cqntrast to tho heavy prime condition of the Gisborne draft offered last week. The only outside entries were two pens railed from Wairoa. . Competition was nnusually keen, and butchers holding very small gupplieSj values soared to record levels. Ox and heifer beef realised 40/- petl 1001b. and better, and cow beef made 35/- per 1001b. Female pens, based on quality, showed a rise of fully 40/* fll head on last week's prices. At a later stage an extra heavy long* framed Aberdeen Angus bullock, very| solidly finished, realised £17 7/-, this being the highest price recorded for many years. The principal .entry of ox beef waS offered on account of Mr. Donaldl Campbell, ''Waipiropiro," wh h rnado to £15 10/-, and the heaviest \ .1(1 not exceed 7751bs. Many of the pens ofl cows were in very light condition, and a number were in store order onljj being much below' butchers* quality* The range of quality was very small, which, combined with the short yaTd* ing which was much below the imme*
diate demands, accounted for .the falsaj price levels which made extremely dear buying throughout. ' Rcalisations were as. under w OX-BEEF VALUES On account of Mr Donald CampbeH^ "Waipiropiro", an entry of heavy Abei*» deen Angus- Hereford crossi bullocki, showing a solid finish, a primo quality winter beef entry, sold in two lots aj £15 1/- and £15. On account of the same vendor, 1 further entry of four similar-bred bul* locks, also a prime quality pen, melj with keen bidding to make £15 10/- for the heaviest, the balance selling at £14 10/-. The final entry of bullocks froH "Waipiropiro", smaller grown than the previous pens but equally well fmishedi, sold to £13 7/-. On account of Mr George Priesfl, Pukehou, an entry of horned Hereford bulocks, medium framed, tbetops being quite well finished, sold at £14 15/-. Two entries of Hereford cross bul* locks, in light order, in store conditiofl only, sold to £12 10/-, HEIFER RATES A medium-grown Aberdeen Angue heifer, in very light finish, made deaij buying at £8 15/-. Two further similar-bred heifers, not showing any improvement on tbe pro* vious entry, outsold it by. 15/- making £9 10/-. Down from Tutira, an entry of well* framed horned. heavy Hereford heifers, believed to be empty but could not bq guaranteed, sold at £12 2/6. Down from Wairoa, a small-framed dehorned Hereford,* prime finish, sold at £10. COW-BEEF PRICES* An entry of four horned, well-bred, heavy Hereford cows, ili prime condition and solidly finished, making an attractive quality line, sold in two lotB at £12 and £11 15/-. ' On account of the same' vendor, V further pen of similar-bred cows, smaller in th© frame than the previous pen, the tops being equally well finish* \ed, made dear buying at £11 15/- fois the heaviest. From the same source, an entry of medium-framed Aberdeen Angus cows, in medium to prime finish, sold at £10 5/-. An entry of light, nnfinished Aber* deen Angus cows, medium framed, sold at £8 5/-. An entry of small-framed, light Aberdeen Angus cross cows, in killable order, but being much below butchers* quality, sold at £6 11/-. The lightest^ in store condition only, made £5 15/-* On account of Mr. Donald Campbell, "Waipiropiro," a medium-fraincd, horned Hereford cow, showing a good finish, sold at £10 17/6. Down from Tutira, an entry of rae* dium to heavy horned Hereford cows, in good condition but could not be guaranteed as being empty, sold at £10 10/-. Down from Wairoa, an entry of PTnall medium-framed, horned Hereford cows, showing a good finish, sold to £10 10/-. From the same source, a further en* try of young, mixed-bred cows, in sl* milar order to .the previous pen, sold to £11 2/-. WEANER RATES. On account of Mr. H. Hassall, six prime Aberdeen Angus cross and Here* ford weaners, taken off their mothers this morning, sold to £5 12/-*
