MOPPING-UP OPERATIONS
South Station Demolished (eRcoived 30, 2.15 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Aug. 29. A Japanese uaval landing-party mopped-up resisting Chinese after six hours' fighting. The Japanese losses are slight. The south station has been demolished and can no longer be employed for railjvay purpose*. ,
A Peiping (North China) message reports that the Chinese left 170 dead on the Lianshiang battlellold, including youths of between 15 and 17. A Chiuese division entcred Amoy and captured tbe barracks. Japanese residcHts were withdrawn. The Chinese. without notifying Japan, have transferred to the Siam secre-tariat-general the Shantung railway, formerly under Japanese management. Japan regards this as a breach of faith. Additional penniless refugees are arriving at Hongkong from Shanghai. Mrs W. L. Shinn, wife of a ship's captain, was taken to hospital, where she gave birth to triplets.
