Ernest Whitcombe won the NewsChronicle golf Tournament withi an aggregate of 268, a British recoid for a major tournament. S. L. King, with 270, was second and Eddie Whitcombe, with 273, third. Interest in the third round centred on the duel between fatlier and son, in which Eddie took the lead with 67 to Ernest' s 72, but Ernest, with an amazing fourth round of 64, gained the victory.
