Man Admit& Issuing Valueless Cheques 'FAST COMPANY, SLOW HORSES'

AUCKLAND, Last Night. "Fast company and slow horses" were among the excuses advanced by Holroyd Wynn Taylor, aged 36, clerk, for his appearance in the Police Court to-day on 12 charges of obtaining a total sum of £122 by falsely representing that a number of cheques and drafts were good and valid orders. Detective Bnady said that, when arrested, Taylor admittcd having received the money and also that he had no account at the bank. In a statement in his own handwxiting Taylor stated that he was married, with one child. In March last he came to Auckland from Sydney to get employment. He saw his mother in Wellington. She advanced him £50 from his father's estate. "In Auckland I got into fast company, losing all sense of xesponsibility,'' the statement continued. "Then I got into debt and issued a draft on the estate of my deceased father. I had no authority, but was hopc,al that my mothor would .hohour it." He added that, while drinking, he drew drafts and started baeking horses in a'n endeavour to get square. He now realised the disgrace he had brought on his poople. He promised at the termination of his punishment to go to the country and work on afarm and to repay the money in instalments. Taylor pleaded guilty to all charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentenee.
