Biulding a Paradise NEEDLESS FEARS ,
(By Telegraph-
WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and Minister of Finance and Marketing, the Hon. W. Nasli, who were the guests of honour at the Wellington Chamber of Commerce luncheon, spoke of their experiences abroad. Mr SaVage said that after examining the various systems of Government in the world to-day, they found very little to complain about in tlie system that operated in New Zealand. The Parliamentary system nieant that tlie authority came from the people themselves. It was possible that he and liis colleagues had made mistakes, but they liad made other things as well as mistakes. He had been impressed by tlie number of New Zealand people who could see disaster ahead. He could not uuderstand why that sliould be. "If we are capable of producing the goods and services that meaii prosperity, surely we are capable of seeing that the people enjoy those thingis. I always felt it is not nqcessary for us to get down to the living standards of other nations. I think we can build — I ain sure we are buiiding — a comparative paradise in the Pacific. I see no need for worrying about the luture. It is. not going to be like a billiard table, but we are not going over th© same path as we had to go over in the last eiglit years. The Government is not going to wait for things to happen ; it is gping to make them happen. ' ' Mr Nash said there were three factors in trade to-day— unused resources,. unsatisfied demands and tbe price level in between. While there were people in Britain who were not getting primary produce when they dpsired it. it was not right that New Zealand or any other country, should cease producing those goods. He could fiud nobody who disagreed with that view. Every individual was entitled to the freedom that could be given him in his own country. He meant freedom in the fullest sense of tho word.
