LABOUR CRITICISED

-Preas Association.

— i I National Party Supporter

By Telegraph-

HAMILTON,' Last Night. Keen interest in politics in the Waikato district was evidenced by a capacity house for an address by Mr O. C. Mazengarb at Hamilton last evcning. He criticised the inability of the Government to^ reduce the number oi ablebodied men on sustenance when farmers were crying out for labour. Dealing with the socialistic steps of the Labour Party, Mr Mazengarb said that with State 'conjtrol of finance, of transport, and of buiiding, and with State control of the medical services in the offing, the country was .well on' the way to the j stage when the Government would be able to kick away the few remaining obstacles to State ownersliip of all the means of production, distribution and exchange. In answer to a question, he said that he did not think that the National Party would repeal the 40-hour week if the party was successful at tho elections, and he also stated that he was not . i'n favour of reducing wages. It was the institution of tlie. two togetlier that liad caused embarrassment. Referring to the guaranteed price for dairy produce, he said he could not speak for the party, but he thought t'he price should be a minimum one, with the farmer given any surplus at tlie end of the season, aiid aho that tho farmer sliould control the sale of his own produce. A motion of confidenco in the policy of tlie National Party was carried, and an aniendment expressing confidcnce 111 tlie present Government was lost by a wide majority.
