PIRATE VICTORY IN SWAIN CUP GAME

In junior Eugby match between l'irates and Waikare, on Nelson Park, Napier, on Saturday, the first knockout match for the Swain Cup, Pirates defeated Waikare by 24 points to 8. The game-was playcd at a fast pace througliout, Pirates showing a better finisb in the back line. The Waikare backs were ragged almost at all times, but their forwards were a tower of strength, both in the tight and loosol Gordon Christie, the fleet Pirates winger, scored tbree pretty tries, while Grouden also played a sterling game for the town team. Scorers for l^irates were: — Christie (3), Groudeu (2) and McGraw, while S. Boardman was responsible for thrce conveisions. The Waikare score came from tncs by ltedshaw and Burgess and a conversion by Hedley. Mr M. McMenamin was the referee.
