Findings of Napier Hospital Commission MINISTER'S COMMENT
(From
WELLINGTON, This Day. Contending that the conelusions reached by the Napier Hospital Commission were fuljy justified by the facts addueed at tixe xnquiry, the Hon, P, Fraser, Minister of Health, intimated to-day that there was no possibility, at least in the near future, of any altei'ft* tion being made in the hospxtal-board system. The commission 's report made reference to the principle of local control and administration and stated that there was much to be said for the contention that the hospital system in New Zealand should, in some measure, be nationalised. . "The administration of hospitals under the board system was not aetually referred to the Napier commission," said Mr. Fraser. "Neither was the reorganisation of representation on the Hawke's Bay board. While both these matters might possibly be the subject of further consideration, there is little likelihood of any change in the system of control by hospital boards in New Zealand. Mr. Fraser went on to emphasise that the Napier Hospital Commission had carried out its duties with thorough efficiency, and in a conscientious and honest fashion, "I wxsh to jpoint out," he said, r'that its conelusions bearing exprossly on the order of referenee were based logically on the evidence submitted. In my opinion the conelusions were completely justified by the evidence and facts placed before the commission at the inquiry."
