Ohurakura-Te Pohue
Mrs. Brooks presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Ohurakura-To Pohuo Women 's Institfutc. The balanee-sheet of the ball was read and showed a good profit. The home competitions resulted as follows: — Something new from something old, Mrs. Lop.dell (plate rack and cupboard) 1, Mrs. McEobbie (doll's house) 2 Mrs. Hankin (boy's trousers) 3. Scones, Mts. McEobbie 1, Mrs. Hankin 2. Members stood in silence as a max'k of respect for Mrs Brooks, who lias lost her .'sister. It was decidcd to hold a card evening in September, the proceeds to go towarde tho cndowment fund. After the usual business Mrs. McEobbie gave an interesting dexnonstration on pine-needle work, which was very mxxch appreeiated by all. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. McEobbie was eleetefl secretary owing to thc resignation of Mrs. A. EUiott. ■ Mrs. Aildns, Mrs. Hankin and Mrs. Lopdell were liostesses, and the meeting closed with the National Anthenx.
