"Never Came Across a Worse Case."

INVERCARGILL, Last Night. , On a charge of negligent driving Eric j Clarence Taylor, garage proprietor, was jsentenced to 14 days' imprisonment in the Magistrate 's Court to-day, the term ' to be increased ,if necessary to allow the right of appeal. The Magistrate, Mr. W, H. Freeman, |said he had never come across a worsc icase of negligent driving. The Magistrate also remarked that it was defend,ant's fourth offence. Couhsel for the defendant, Mr. G. J. [Reed, when asked by the Magistrate if Ihe had anything to say as to the pentalty, said he would ask that a penalty Ibe imposed such as would enable defenidant to appeal as the list of defendjant's convictions had been improperly put before the Conrt and questions had been asked of defendant in xespect of !which no evidence was before the Court. , The Magistrate: I asked the quesjtions and I had a perfect right to do so. On a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car Graham Allan, a farmer, of Wyndham, was fined £10 and costs and his licenc6 ,Yas cancelled for six months.
