II I Commission Visits Waipukurau

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. ' Waipukurau was visited last night by the Commission inquiring into the maternity services in New Zealand. The personnel of the party was Dr. T. F. Oorkill (acting-chairman), Dr. T. 1^ Paget, Dr. Sylvia Chapman and Mrs N. G. Kent-Johnston. Accompanying them are Mr J. W. Buchanan, secretary ol! the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board, and three stenographers. The party left Wellington by car yesterday morning, commencing the enquiry in the North Island at Woodville. Evid.nce was taken at the Dannevirke Public Hospital yesterday afternoon. Three other members of the commission are to jein the party the Hastings and Napier. They are Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P. (chairman), Mrs Peter Fraser and Mrs A. M. Hutchoson. At 7.30 they were met at the distriet hospital by Messrs W. "H. Eathbone, chairman, G. Warren, N. G. Hawthorn, D. Eddy, L. Gienny and D. W. Ne.ild (board lnembers), Dr. W. B. Fisher (medical superintendent) and Mr P. It. Sinyrk (managing secretary). Evidence was taken from the board 's oxoeutive ohicers and members in refcrence to maternity facilities undor the board 's control. Later, the commission heard evidence by other witnosses. This morning the commission paid a visit to the Rathbone Maternity Hospital, Waipawa, and also visited all the private maternity homes in this disirict. In the afternoon the commission departed for Hastings and Napier to continue its enquiry into the area oi' the ILavvke 's Bay Hospital Board.
