Monthly Council Meeting

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. The monthly meeting of the Patangata County Council was held yesterday, Mr C. Pattison presiding over Cis. McHardy, R. H. White, J. D. Ormond, jnr., H. Parsons, A V. T. Kittow, A, W. G. Longley, B. E. O. Nilsson and A. McGaihn, The engineer, Mr J. C. McLauchlan, and the clerk, Mr J. W. Elliott, were also in attendance. Leave of absence was granted Cr. C. R. Edgecombe. A request was received from Mr S. I. Peacock that, while the council was metalling Te Apiti road, they should metal an approach to his house. — It was decided to reply that the council would be prepared to authorise the engineer to carry out the work at cost price. A letter from the chairman of the Waipawa Dental Clinioj Committee tlianked the council for a grant of £2 2/-. Disabled Soldiers3 Products, Dunedin, wrote asking permission to quote for the couneii's supply of dog-col-lars for the 1938 season. — The clerk was autborised to get a quote. It was decided to support the Counties' Association in the formation oi the union. A letter from the Hawke's Bay County Council advised that £200 had been proposed in tliev current year's estimates for tbe renewal of the PaL tangata boundary bridge, and suggested renewal to consist* of four-foot concrete pipes and the necessary filliug. The settlerS concerned had asked the Hawke's Bay Council to expedite tlie work, and Patangata' s approval was souht. — Required approval giveu. The Lands and Survey Department, Napier, ackuowledging a letter re seo erosion on Pourerere beach sections, stated -it would be appreciated if the council's engineer would prepare a report, with suggestions of the nature of the protection work needed, and an estimate of the cost. Ihe department wanted to know, if it approved such suggestions and made a grant, would the council be prepared to undertake the necessary work of erecting the protection agreed uooii.— On O. McHardy's motion, Ihe couueil decided to mstrUct the engineer to make a report, and to reply that they would be prepared to carry out ihe work On the suggested conditions. No. 5 District Highways Council, in a letter, advised that that portion of the Napier-Palmerston North Stato highway lying within the council's boundaries had been taken over as from August 9. Ihe council was thaiiked for carying out maintenaneo work on behalf of tho Highways Board since the road was declarcd a State Highway. — Received.
