Cornwall Park Hedges
ANOTHER i
RATEPAYEE
Sir, — I was glad to see a letter in the Herald-Tribune last night, expressing indignation about the decision of the council to do away with the hedges ou three eides of Cornwall Park. It seems like vandalism to uproot the only outside protection the park is blessed with. These hedges have taken many years to grow, and give a certain amount of shelter from our gales of hot wind during spring and summer. As "Eatepayer" says4 the idea of planting hydrangeas along Roberts street is a great mistake, as the plants ueed shelter and plenty of moisture, and are rather ugly when the flowering is over and the leaves fall. They also require careful pruning every season in order to produce successful flowering^ and that work takes up far more tirne than clippiug evergreen hedges. So many people are protesting against the hedges being taken out and the prospect oi" losing the shelter they give that before the uprooting begins a meeting of Hastings ratepayers should be called to protest. — Yours, etc.,
