NAPIER TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD PASS SEVERAL RESOLUTIONS OF INTEREST

Mra Bruce Barnett presided over tho monthly moeting of tho Napier Townswomen ;s Guild, held yesterday in tho Forestors' Hail, when there was an oxcelient attendanca of members. Four now meinbers were warmly welcomed. Mrs Kirk, a visiting member of the National Oouncil of Women, was also accorded a liearty welfeome. Miss Fannin, seeretary, read a letter which had been received f rom Mr H. W. Guy, of London, who visited Napier last month with an exhibition of work done by disabled soldiers, thanking members of the guild who assisted hiin so much during the exhibition here. At a eommittee meeting held -last month, the following resolutions were considored by the guild, and at yesterday 's meeting were passed unanimouely: — That the Napier Townswomen's Guild recommended the exeeutive of the National Uuion of ' Townswomen's Guilds in New Zcaland to institute a guild badge, the wearing of which would serve as an introduction betweon members and encourage good fellowship throughout -the guild movement. That the Napier Townswomen's Guild urge the New Zealand Governmont to appoint policewomen throughout New Zealand. That the Napier Townswomen's Guild urge the New Zealand Government to cnact legislation prohibiting the consumption of intoxicating drinks in publie halls, or buildings liceneed as public halls, Miss Jerome SSpencer, O.B.E., and Mr-s Bruce Barnett were elected Napier delegates to the lirst couucil meeting of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds, wiifch is to be held shortly. The speaker for the afternoon, Mr W. A. G. Penlington, of Hastings, was then introduced by Mrs Barnett. His addrees on the League of Nations was most instructive, being followod with inten'so interest by all present. Very interesting indeed were the extraets read by Mr Pcnlington from letters of a German soldier who was killed during the Great War. At the conclusion of his address, the speakor was accorded a vory hearty vote of thanks by the chairwoinau, Mrs Barnett, all members ehowing their appreciation. Members of the literary circle thpn ontertained with a mime entitled "At the Pietures in a Small Country Town," which was arranged by Mrs O'Halloran and presented in costume, causing much laughter and being thoroughly enjoyed by all. Those taking part were: — Mesdames Madigan, Wood, O'Halloran, Maney, Bishop, Martin, Harvoy,. Morse, Sweotapple, Sorrell, Barnett and Misses , Fannin and Faulknor. Mrs H.
