Serious Plight of Manufacturers
rBy Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. In order to provide specific information for the Government on the degree of embarrassment caused to manufacturers by the rising tide of imports, athe Auckland Manufacturers ' Association has issued a questionnaire to its inembers, asking for full details of the pregent condition of their business and the prospects for the near future. The president of the association, Mr F. N. Ambler, in a covering letter, refers to the allegation made by the Minister on July 28 that the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation had overstated its case in publicly complaining of the effect of imports on local secondary industry. "This statement seems to show that the Minister cannot be fully aware of the seriousness of the position," the letter continues, "and unless we can supply more direct evidence, it seems evjdent that the Government is still prepared to wait until the manufacturers are absolutely swamped by overseas products before taking action." He adds that in his executive 's opiniou, the position, so far from Demg overstated, can be stated in yet more definite termg.
